Character Name: Faith Fallon AKA Moonlight Glory

Canon: Original (Invisible Hand)
Canon Point: About a year after Darkest Night.
World Information:
In 1718, ten powerful magi formed a secret society called the Hand of Providence. They used their vast combined power to rewrite the world's understanding of history, changing humanity's relationship with magic. In the new world they created, while humans sometimes gained magic powers as children, they had to sacrifice that power once they turned 18 in order to let the next wave of kids use it for their own magical awakenings. In the intervening years, usually around age 12 to age 18, they had to fight Thaumivores, magic-devouring monsters threatening humanity from realms unknown. These magical boys and girls suffered and sometimes died facing these creatures, but it was a tragic necessity of the world.
In reality, nearly all of that is a lie. Magic awakenings are a natural process that requires no sacrifice from others to occur. The magic sacrificed by 18-year-old magi was instead being secretly hoarded by the Hand, increasing their already immense power. Using this nearly bottomless stockpile of magical power, they made themselves immortal, and ruled society from the shadows for 300 years. The reason Thaumivores came to Earth was because of the massive magic stockpiles the Hand accumulated over centuries. However, their secret stranglehold on the planet wasn't perfect, and wouldn't last forever. In secret, an organization of young adults called Lighthouse arose - magi who went rogue, refusing to give up their powers and fighting against the Hand.
History:
Faith got her powers at age 12, and was assigned as one of two magical girls working together to protect her hometown in Florida. The other was a girl of the same age named Michelle, full of sunshine and rainbows, and for a while they fought together and almost dated. Instead, however, Michelle was killed by a Thaumivore at age 14, leaving Faith devastated and alone.
Faith threw herself into battle, quieting the despair inside her by recklessly hunting more and more dangerous monsters with no regard to her own life. What this got her was a severed leg and a few weeks of downtime to get used to it before she was expected to continue fighting. With absolutely no hope left, she returned to battle caring for nothing but the notion that her fight might end when she turned 18. That was when Lighthouse found her.
Marco, the founder of Lighthouse, contacted Faith and revealed the true shape of the world to her. Overwhelmed with rage at the fact that Michelle had died for a lie, she joined them, dedicating her life to hunting down and killing the secret masters of the Hand of Providence - the nine survivors out of the original ten magi who founded it in the 18th century. Their path to the Hand came in the form of Darkest Night - an underground event carried out once a year on the winter solstice where the Hand would kidnap a dozen magi and force them to fight each other to the death for their own entertainment, gambling magic crystals on the outcome. Faith allowed herself to be captured as a participant, but with Marco's portal abilities, they were able to use her to slip all of Lighthouse into the arena, break out, and fight the Hand directly.
The battle between Lighthouse and the Hand of Providence was desperate and perilous, but in the end, Lighthouse won. All nine of the Hand's leaders were killed, and they emerged with proof of the organization's existence and nefarious plans. The Hand's power structure was shattered, turning from a world-spanning conspiracy into weak, broken shards, squabbling desperately for what power they could still grab for themselves while the world hunted them down. Faith retired from the fight at this point, letting others carry on the flame she and Lighthouse lit while she returned to a normal life.
Personality: Tell us about your character! Let us know them as well as you do.
Faith is an angry cynical delinquent with PTSD. Life dealt her a series of awful hands, and she thought she was just massively unlucky until she found out that the dealer had been stacking the deck against her the whole time. The discovery of the Hand burned a permanent mistrust of authority figures into her, even beyond that specific instance of it. If you tell Faith not to do something, it makes her more likely to do it, just because she was told not to. If anyone claims to be acting in your best interest, they have an agenda. The pessimism runs deep; after years of suffering, she struggles to ever believe that something good is going to happen. Why would anything good ever happen?
While someone else might come out of that depressed, Faith got mad. Faith's anger is intense and productive. When she gets angry, she gets focused, turning her hostility into energy to put towards dealing with a problem. To this end, she's at her best when she has a problem that can be bashed out head-on. The pointless cruelty of the world left Faith feeling lost and hopeless, but as soon as she learned that it was someone's fault, all her energy returned. An evil conspiracy is something she can dotoo close to anyone - it's ultimately why her first relationship after Darkest Night didn't last long. On an unconscious level, she's still afraid that if she lets herself truly love someone, they'll be taken away from her again.
Sin:
Wrath: Faith is characterized by anger. When she's wronged, righteous fury is what drives her to action. When there's nothing left for her to fight, she finds something else to fight.
Sloth: After losing Michelle and her leg, Faith gave up. She continued to do her job as described, but essentially nothing else. All she wanted was to kill time until her 18th birthday came and she could stop fighting.
Envy: In her darkest days, Faith came to hate ordinary people. Those who got to live their lives without having to fight to survive became insufferable. She hated them because they had what she thought she never could.
Executor Title: Fury
Memoria:
The Nature of Magic. The propaganda about how magic works. When you awaken to your powers, you're given a familiar to guide you and assigned a territory to protect from Thaumivores. You fight to protect the innocent until your 18th birthday, then give up your powers, returning your magic to the Earth so that someone else may use it to fight in your place.
The Day I Became a Mage. Faith's own powers awaken, granting her control over inertia. She's assigned her hometown as a territory, to be shared with another girl about her age. Their careers begin, as Moonlight Glory and Sunshine Violet.
Michelle. Faith's loyal partner in magic. For two years, she was transfixed by Michelle's cheer and positivity. She wouldn't realize until later that what she was feeling was love.
Her Name is Lily. Faith's idol, a powerful magical girl who began fighting at a very young age. The specific memory was of the time Lily saved her from a Thaumivore that was too strong for her to take on at her level of experience.
Dusk. The light that lit Faith's life goes out. In a fight against a powerful, shape-shifting Thaumivore, Michelle sacrifices herself to save Faith's life.
Rock Bottom. Faith awakens in a hospital after a particularly bloody fight, to find that her right leg has been amputated below the knee. Just one more thing to sacrifice to the endless fight against the Thaumivores.
The Hand of Providence. The true orchestrators of Faith's tragedy. Nine men created this cruel world, and they alone profit from it, sacrificing children at the altar of greed. Faith learned of their existence, and her despair became rage.
Welcome to Lighthouse. Marco recruited Faith to join Lighthouse, a secret undercover group dedicated to destroying the Hand. She accepted, killed her familiar, and went rogue. She had an enemy, and now she had the support she needed to reach them.
New Friends. Lighthouse was full of other magi from different backgrounds, united only by their hatred of the Hand. Marco, the leader who was once an idol. Lily, who Faith looked up to, but who had grown up knowing nothing but the fight. Jailbreak, an orphan who could always be counted on to do something extremely reckless and stupid that somehow works out. Maddie, the blind mage with a desperate need to prove herself. And more.
Darkest Night. Lighthouse's final mission. Faith secretly infiltrated the cruel battle royale as a participant, but allowed the rest of Lighthouse to sneak in with her. Together, they challenged the Hand at their seat of power. However, they were powerful beyond imagination - was there ever any hope of winning against such might?
Dawn. The remainder of that night. All nine members of the Hand were killed. All members of Lighthouse survived. A total victory by the children once crushed beneath the Hand's tyranny.
Faith. Her real name.
The Day After. In the aftermath of Darkest Night, Lighthouse spread awareness of the conspiracy's existence, leading the world to hunt down and expose the fractured cells remaining around the world. Faith continued to fight these remnants for some time, in battles that were lower stakes than Darkest Night but still dangerous.
A Normal Life. Eventually, Marco convinced Faith to retire from the fight and return to civilian life. She put down her axe, mostly for good, and went to college. Got a girlfriend, but they broke up after about half a year. Normal problems for a hard-earned normal future.
